How to Pass the CompTIA A+ Exam on Your First Try

How to Pass the CompTIA A+ Exam on Your First Try

What Is CompTIA A+?

CompTIA A+ is a vendor-neutral certification that validates skills for supporting hardware, software, mobile devices, networking, and operating systems. It is the preferred baseline for IT support roles in government, banking, and corporate environments across Kuwait.

The Two Exams

A+ requires passing two exams: Core 1 (220-1101) covering hardware, networking, and mobile devices; and Core 2 (220-1102) covering operating systems, security, and troubleshooting methodology. Both must be passed to earn the certification.

8-Week Study Plan

  • Weeks 1–2: Hardware fundamentals — PC components, memory types, storage, and cable standards.
  • Weeks 3–4: Networking basics — TCP/IP, subnetting, Wi-Fi standards, and common ports.
  • Weeks 5–6: Operating Systems — Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile OS fundamentals.
  • Weeks 7–8: Security and troubleshooting — run timed practice exams daily.

Exam Day Tips

Flag uncertain questions and return to them. Performance-based (simulation) questions appear first — do not spend more than 3 minutes on any single one. You have 90 minutes for 90 questions.
